Parade of Lights 2015

We had such a perfectly amazing weekend at the Parade of Lights this year.  Per usual, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency.  This year I booked with Rusty’s hotel points and so we were able to book a Club Level room.  Which meant we had access to a special lounge filled with snacks and drinks.  The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever.  We went up before the parade and made ourselves little goodie bags and then after the parade we went up and warmed up with yummy hot chocolate.

We left our animal friends with the best view of the parade from above.

It was a lovely evening so we decided to walk and see the lights and the Christmas tree at Union Station.  That is such a fun, cool space! The boys loved playing shuffleboard and Halle and I could have stared at the intricate tree all night long. And we got suckered into buying the darling, overpriced Union Station Christmas ornament.  But we just love it.  We wolfed down hamburgers for dinner and made our way back to our parade spot just in time.

As always, the parade was full of Christmas spirit.  And I am happy to report that Santa was back this year on his awesome float!

The next morning we dragged ourselves out of bed and walked to the Trinity Church.  It is such a beautiful building!  We were privileged to hear a beautiful Christmas Cantata performed by the Methodist Choir and Orchestra.  Halle loved that they read from the NIV Bible—she said it was much easier to understand.  Blake loved that they provided Children’s bags filled with coloring pages, stickers, and fun word puzzles.  I don’t think Josh really liked any of it. But it’s good to know he has equal feelings of dislike toward the Mormons and the Methodists.Smile

Then it was back to the hotel for breakfast in the lounge and then swimming at the pool.  Neither Rusty or I really wanted to swim but the kids wanted an adult to get in the pool.  I reminded Rusty that in the delivery room at each of their births he called to be “The Fun Parent.”  And swimming with the kids was part of Fun Parent duty.  Watching him jump into the freezing cold, dirty hotel pool, I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to be the Un-fun Parent.
