We did not have an easy time getting to Boston. Our flight was supposed to leave at 1:30pm on Saturday afternoon. We received a text that morning informing us the flight had been delayed until 4:20. Bummer! We arrived at the airport around 3pm just as a small thunder storm was beginning. The storm lasted about 10 min. But, as luck would have it, that 10 min was just when our plane was coming into Denver. Because of lightening in the area, the plane diverted to Pueblo. Great. New flight time estimate….7:30pm. Because many flights were diverted, the airport was a MESS. We boarded the plane around 8, but didn’t actually leave the ground until 9pm. 7 1/2 hrs late. We were all exhausted and the plane hadn’t even left the ground!
The flight was uneventful, and we arrived in Boston at 3am. The poor kids tried to sleep a bit on the plane, but no one could get comfortable for too long. We hopped right into a taxi and I was praying the whole way that our apartment was not part of an elaborate scam. I had never spoken to anyone in person. All communication was through email. My prayer was answered—the apartment actually did exist
We took 5 min to explore our new home, and fell into bed.
Luckily church was at 1pm the next day, because we slept in until after 10am.
Church was great! It is a beautiful building near MIT campus. The ward is quite small, especially the primary—maybe 20 kids tops. But, there were lots of free thinking females in pants, and feminist concerns being openly voiced and discussed in Relief Society, so I think I will fit right in here.
Our apartment is a quaint little 2 bedroom on Banks Street in Cambridge. The kids think it’s pretty darn cool to live on Banks St. We are about 1/2 mile from Harvard Square and all the fun, restaurants, and people watching that goes on there. Also, Josh couldn’t be more happy to be back in a land with public transportation. By the second day he was boasting that he knew the route from our house to the subway station. And he is totally impressed that there is a Dunkin Donuts down in the Harvard Square Station. So impressed in fact, that he suggested that we take a ride on the subway all the way to the end of the Red Line, so he can figure out exactly where it goes. And, while we are at it, we might a well grab a couple of donuts for the trip. Love that boy.
